As a biological concept, an adult animal or human is a person who has grown. In the human context, the term adult has meanings associated with the legal and social world. Contrary to those who are who is not considered to be an adult or "minor", the legal adult has attained majority, which makes them independent, capable, and responsible. The term "major" is a term used to define them. The age at which a child turns an adult legally is 18, however, the definition of legal maturity can be different depending upon the nation or legal system in place, and also the state of their mental health.

The lifespan of human beings Adulthood refers to the age when a person has achieved full physical and intellectual maturity. It usually starts when a person reaches the age of 21. In general, middle age begins around 40 years of age, and is followed by a period of approximately 60 years. There are three primary levels of adulthood: the early years of the age of adulthood (18 to mid-30s), middle adulthood (mid-30s until mid-60s) as well as late adulthood (mid-60s until end of life).
